Halton Marine commits itself to long-term energy conservation

Halton Marine is joining the Finnish Energy Efficiency Agreement, business and industry sector. Under the agreement companies are obliged to set an energy efficiency target of 9% minimum, but Halton Marine is aiming higher and set the target at 11%.

Nationally the purpose of the energy efficiency agreement, is to contribute to the fulfilment of the international commitments in the fight against climate change. The aim is that companies and communities would consider energy efficiency, and using renewable energy sources continuously, as a part of their applied environmental management systems. "Although Halton does not consume very much energy in its operations, it is important to participate”, says Ms. Anne Hämäläinen, Quality and Environmental Engineer of Halton Marine. “This way we will have a chance of contributing to the battle against the climate change for our part”.

At the beginning of the agreement, companies should carry out a comprehensive energy audit or analysis, in order to determine the possibilities for enhancing energy efficiency. Based on the results, companies should prepare an action plan and set a schedule for energy efficiency. Enhancing energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources should be considered in all operations, also for example, purchasing and logistics.

“I consider preparing and following the action plan only a minor effort for a company that already holds an environmental management system. After all, as a part of our ISO 14001 environmental management system, we already monitor our energy consumption and set targets to reduce our environmental impacts”, Anne Hämäläinen concludes.
